Ayahuasca healing is not usually gentle. The dreaded bad trip that all of the hippies were terrified of in the sixties is an extremely common experience when healing with Ayahuasca. You are often sure that you are going to die or go insane. There is terror and anxiety and every emotion and thought you have been avoiding your whole life. If you aren’t serious about healing, ayahuasca might be a bad idea for you.
Ayahuasca Reveals What Is Inside
The thing ayahuasca does that can be hard to understand is that it shows you what is stuck inside of you. If you have fear trapped inside of you, you may not be conscious of it on a daily basis. You may feel that your fears are normal and prudent and that without them you would be in danger. During your ayahuasca session your fears can become a whole realm of reality isolated from everything else. You end up dropped into this realm and it feels like never-ending fear. That can really freak a person out. It feels like you have been dropped into hell and you may struggle to get out of this hell. But the medicine won’t let you go. It won’t let you change the subject.
One way I describe it is that it is like having a bunch of pre programmed robots descend on you to do healing. The robots have been programmed to do a job and won’t quit until the job is done. They are not programmed to care about your reactions or fears or to care about the ‘you’ that is afraid. They have been set loose on you and there’s no sending them back. It can be hellish if you resist.
A Microscope into Your Psyche
When you accept this in the moment and allow your fear to be felt, everything changes. You understand that you are not thrown into hell but that you have been shown an exaggerated version of the hell you create every day. It is like looking into a microscope and being shown an enlarged version of your psyche. If you look into a microscope and see the bacteria that live in your body, you could get grossed out. You could start freaking out that these things live in you and you could have massive issues with that. The same goes with your inauthentic emotional patterns. Psychedelic integration work that combines preparation before the ceremony and integration afterwards is a force multiplier.
With Ayahuasca Healing, Let the Tool Do the Work
A carpenter once taught me not to use too much force when sawing wood. I was really pressing down on the saw and it made things harder. The wood splintered around the cut and I got tired out from all of the effort. He told me to “Let the tool do the work”. I thought that would be lazy but really it was the best way to do it.
Ayahuasca healing works in much the same way. When you focus on breathing and allow the craziness to come up and be purged, ayahuasca will do the work for you. You don’t need to figure anything out. Just receive healing. That sounds easy but is probably the hardest thing about the whole process. Just receive.
